Hair Loss in Teens and Young Adults

Although hair loss is often associated with aging, this is not entirely true. It is normal to experience more hair loss or similar problems as you age, but hair loss can occur at any age, including teenage years or young adulthood.

Hair loss requires a very personal approach to understand. Here are some common reasons for hair loss in young individuals;

Genetic Predispositions

Family history of hair loss, especially male pattern baldness, significantly increases the risk of hair loss. In addition, according to recent scientific research, certain genes may predispose to premature hair loss.

Hormonal Changes

Puberty, PCOS or other hormonal imbalances can cause hair loss. Along with puberty, it is normal to see mild hair loss, but if it is not temporary, it is recommended to seek professional help as soon as possible for treatment.

Nutritional Deficiencies

An inadequate diet lacking essential nutrients such as iron and zinc can weaken hair follicles. It is always recommended to maintain a healthy diet to keep your hair follicles strong and healthy.

Stress and Anxiety

Stress is known to be one of the main causes of hair loss. Mental stress, especially a chronic one, can trigger a condition known as telogen effluvium, which causes a significant amount of hair follicles to enter the resting phase and shed.

Although this condition is temporary, chronic stress can cause permanent hair loss. It is always recommended to look for stress management techniques such as yoga or regular exercise if you are under constant stress.
